414th Installation Ceremony: September 10 Declared Public Holiday by Punjab Government

CHANDIGARH—On the eve of 414th installation ceremony of living Sikh master Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the Punjab government has announced to keep all the state government run bodies closed on September 10.

An official notification issued today by the Punjab government’s Personnel Department under reference number 6/7/2017-2 PP 3/604-608 declares September 10 as a public holiday. “All the offices of Punjab Government, boards, corporations and educational institutions would remain closed on the occasion” reads the notification.  

“On the directive of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the Punjab Government has declared a public holiday on the auspicious occasion of ‘First Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji’ (installation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in Sri Harmandir Sahib in 1604) on September 10 (Monday)” reads a press release by the Punjab government.          

Notably, the Punjab government had earlier kept this holiday in the state’s list of restricted holidays.
