SGPC Condemns Punjab Government’s Plan of Giving Chapparchiri Memorial to a Private Firm

AMRITSAR SAHIB—Strongly condemning the Punjab government’s decision of giving the control of Chapparchiri memorial built in the memory of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur to a private firm, the SGPC president S. Gobind Singh Longowal has said that the former SAD led Punjab government had built such memorials to attract the young generation towards Sikhism but it is very unfortunate that the serving Congress led Punjab government is depicting dereliction in delivering its duty.

Accusing the Punjab government of running from its basic duty, Longowal has said that the contractor firms will start financially exploiting the Sikh visitors after getting control of Chapparchiri Memorial. He added that the Punjab government needed to build new Sikh history memorials but unfortunately it has even failed in paying attention towards the take care of existing memorials.

Citing the worsening situation of the Heritage Walk Street leading to Sri Harmandir Sahib, Longowal said that the failure of Punjab government in maintaining the historic memorials has brought its working under a question mark.
