Takht Sri Hazur Sahib: SGPC Opposes Maharashtra Government’s Bid to Establish Control on Management Board

AMRITSAR SAHIB—Taking strong notice of the Maharashtra state government’s move of beginning process to increase the count of state nominated members in Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Management Board, the SGPC president S. Gobind Singh Longowal has said that the Maharashtra state government was doing so establish its control over Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Management Board. He added that the SGPC won’t let the ill intentions of Maharashtra government bear fruit at any cost.

It is noteworthy here that the Maharashtra state government is working on making amendment in 1956’s Management Act to make a quota for six more members in the Management Board of Takht Sri Hazur Sahib.

Presently, the Takht Hazur Sahib board has 17 members, of which three are nominated from the local area. Four members from the SGPC, one each from the Maharashtra government, Madhya Pradesh and Chief Khalsa Diwan, one from Hyderabad resident Sikhs, two from Sikh Parliamentarians and four from the Hazuri Khalsa Diwan are appointed to run the board’s affairs.

Terming the Maharashtra government’s move as an attempt of making direct interference in Sikh affairs, Longowal has said that the SGPC would take up the matter with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Maharashtra’s CM Sri Devendra Fadnavis. He has also suggested the President of Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Management Board S. Tara Singh to raise the matter before Maharashtra government.
