BREAKING: Punjab Government to Compensate All Jodhpur Detainees

CHANDIGARH—In an attempt to woo the Sikh vote bank, the Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has announced to provide compensation for all the Jodhpur detainees. Although the Punjab government was bound to pay only half share of compensation to only 40 Jodhpur detainees as per Amritsar Court’s verdict, but now the Punjab government has announced to compensate other 325 Jodhpur detainees also.

Captain Amarinder Singh made this announcement while distributing compensation among the 40 Jodhpur detainees at Punjab Bhawan today.  It is learnt that the Punjab government has paid the compensation amount along with interest as per Court’s direction.

It is pertinent to note here that the Indian government had arrested around 1750 Sikhs during the June-1984 holocaust. After classifying them into three categories, the Indian government had sent 365 Sikhs of first category to Jodhpur jail.

In 2011, only 40 Jodhpur detainees were able to file a case in Amritsar Court as the Court had demanded a surety bond of Rs. 25,000/- from each of detainees seeking compensation.

“Extremely touched by the plight of Jodhpur detainees. Only 40 had gone to court and got compensation order. The others also deserve it. My govt will pay same compensation to the remaining 325 also. I’ll also request Centre for the same” Captain wrote on his Facebook wall.
