SGPC asks Indian government to impose ban on release of movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Watching obdurate behaviour of producer Harinder Sikka to release controversial movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee has written to the Indian government and state government of Punjab to impose ban on the release of ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’. The move has come after recommendation by the seven member sub-committee appointed to review the movie by SGPC on April 5.

It is pertinent to note here that the sub-committee had called upon the producer of ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ Harinder Sikka for dialogue but Sikka had refused to appear before the sub-committee on April 6. He had said that he won’t stop from releasing the movie on its scheduled timing i.e. April 13.

SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal has asked the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Information & Broadcast Minister Smriti Irani and Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh to impose ban on the release of movie. Longowal has said that the Sikh masses will lose their temper if the movie gets released on April 13.

Meanwhile, it has come to the fore that Harinder Sikka has asked the Sikh bodies that he is ready to remove objectionable scenes from ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ and has appealed the community to let it hit screens on Vaisakhi without any hindrance.

However, this is still not sitting well with Sikh organizations. Speaking to Sikh24, the Vice-President of Sikh Youth Federation Bhindranwala Bhai Rajit Singh Damdami Taksal said that the producer Harinder Sikka was divagating the Sikh community by saying that the role of Guru Nanak Sahib hasn’t been served by any actor. He added that the actor Harish Khanna had already admitted that he played the role of the first SIkh Guru.

Bhai Ranjit Singh further said that Harinder Sikka should keep one thing in his mind that pageantry is totally unacceptable in Sikh religion and the Sikh community won’t allow any human being to serve role of their prophets at any cost.

  1. If Guru Nanak Dev Ji did not want his image to be seen by others he would not have allowed his portrait to be painted in Baghdad.
Who are we now to question the Great Gurus wisdom.
    Tradition is man made.
Why is it ok to have images of Gurus in private homes and gurdwaras and not have a film about the Great. Guru?
    Think….think….think….

  2. Modi gave Green Light to Sikka to release the film and we are again pleading with him to ban the film. SGPC why did you first gave it green light ? you need to decide whether you are with the Sikh Sangat or with the gunda Sarkar?

  3. We have sowed the seeds of our own destruction first bachitter Natak and now this ? may this be a wake up call and we can put our house in order so that one can fight the outside forces. Expecting anything from outside forces especially Indian Govt is just foolish. This govt gave awards to this movie >
