Sikh Anand Marriage Act implemented in Delhi After Struggle of 109 Years

NEW DELHI—After more than a century long struggle of the Sikh community, the Anand Marriage Act-2012 has been implemented in Delhi, the national capital of India. It is learnt that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal has recommended the implementation of Anand Marriage Act 2012 in India’s national capital.

Sharing the development with Sikh24, DSGMC General Secretary and Delhi legislator Manjinder Singh Sirsa informed that the demand for imposition of Anand Marriage Act in Delhi was first raised in 1909. He has thanked the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Delhi’s Lieutenant General Anil Baijal for accepting the demand of Sikh community.

While speaking with Sikh24, Sirsa appealed the Delhi resident Sikh masses to register their marriages under this act. He has said that the Sikh couples, who got tied in the wedding knot before implementation of this act, can also register their marriages under this act.

Portraying his party supremo Sukhbir Badal as his source of inspiration to begin this task, Sirsa further said that process of implementation of Anand Marriage Act-2012 was in last phase in Bihar and Assam. He expressed hope that the Anand Marriage Act-2012 will get implemented in all the states of India and the Union Territories.
