:dateline:55 years old Rampal, who had rescued Shiv sena leader to hospital after the latter was shot at by two unidentified assailants, reportedly committed suicide on January 23 under NIA’s pressure by jumping into Sirhind canal. It is learnt that he was deliberately subjected to harassment by the NIA team to pressurize him turn into eye-witness against Bhai Hardeep Singh Shera and Bhai Ramandeep Singh.
Family members of Rampal have informed that Rampal called over phone to his mother and wife before jumping into Sirhind canal. He told them over phone that he was fed up of harassment by the NIA’s team and was unable to endure further torture by the team.
“NIA tortured my son to such an extent that he preferred to die than living under such circumstances” said Rampal’s mother while shedding tears.
It may be recalled here that two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants had gunned down Punjab Shiv Sena�s labour wing chief Durga Prasad Gupta at Lalehi Chowk in Khanna on April 23, 2016.
Gupta, who was inside his office along with his gunman and party workers, got a call on his mobile phone following which he left his office on his motorcycle, saying that he will be back soon. He didn�t take his gunman along. As he reached Lalhedi Chowk, Gupta was intercepted by two assailants, who had their faces covered with a piece of cloth.
