CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Sikh political prisoner Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara has refused to attend court hearing via video conference.  Speaking with Sikh24, Bhai Tara’s legal counsel JS Bedi said that if the judge wants to pursue case proceedings, he can come to jail and resume the hearing by holding face to face sittings.

Bhai Tara is facing trial in a Bathinda Court.  He was scheduled to appear before the judge on November 18, however, Bhai Tara adamantly refused to appear via video conferencing.

“When the cops went to Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara to ask him to appear before Judge via video conference Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara refused bluntly.  This caused a lot of panic within the cops as they didn’t know what to do next,” Bhai Tara’s legal counsel told Sikh24.

Blunt stand taken by Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara is being warmly appreciated by the Sikh worldwide Sikh community.

Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara was deported to India by Thailand authorities in January 2015. He is currently languishing in Burail Jail (Chandigarh).  He is alleged to be a conspirator in the assassination case of former Chief Minister Beant “Singh” who was assassinated by Shaheed Bhai Dilawar Singh Babbar on August 31, 1995 out the Civil Secretariat, Chandigarh. Beside this, Bhai is considered as an activist of banned armed body Babbar Khalsa and Chief of Khalistan Tiger Force.
