BATHINDA, Punjab—Accusing the Union government of India for step-motherly treatment with Sikhs, newly appointed President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee S. Kirpal Singh Badungar announced to back SAD (Badal)’s stand on the issue. S. Badungar was addressing the media at Teja Singh Samundari Hall after first meeting of newly constituted SGPC’s executive committee on November 12.

Citing the exclusion of Punjabi speaking areas from map of Punjab, S. Badungar said that the resources of Punjab were being looted systematically by the Indian government. He added that if the water of Punjab is shared with Haryana via SYL-Canal it will have direct impact on Sikhs. ‘A community that always acted as shield to the Union of India is being rewarded with loot of natural resources of its motherland’ he added.

badal-son-at-darbar-sahibProf. Kirpal Singh Badungar said that the SGPC will approach President of India Sri Pranab Mukherjee to appeal him not to grant waters of Punjab to other states. ‘SGPC will demand appointment of a tribunal to sort out the SYL-Canal dispute as per the standards of worldwide accepted Riparian law’ he added.

It may be recalled here that the Supreme Court of India had given its verdict in favour of Haryana on November 10 annulling the Punjab Termination of Agreements Act-2004 which was passed in 2004 by the Punjab assembly. The Apex Court had said that the Punjab state assembly doesn’t possess any right to annul a two sided agreement.

In a quick response to SC verdict, Head of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Captain Amarinder Singh had resigned from his MP post in the Amritsar Sahib Constituency from where he was elected in May 2014. Also, all the 42 Congress legislators of Punjab assembly had resigned in protest of the SC verdict against Punjab.

After thoroughly deliberating upon the verdict of Supreme Court, the Punjab government has called a special assembly on November 16 in which it is likely to come up with a new resolution.
