BATHINDA, Punjab—Shiromani Akali Dal led Punjab government has denied permission to hold Sarbat Khalsa 2016 called at Talwandi Sabo on November 10. The permission was sought by activists of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) which was denied by the Deputy Commissioner of Bathinda Basant Garg.  The Bathinda DC cited the law & order vulnerability for denying permission to hold Sarbat Khalsa 2016.

Meanwhile, the Punjab police has conducted statewide raids to detain Sikh activists during wee hours of November 6 and 7.  The government officials have confirmed the preventive detention of 80 Sikh activists while the information from unofficial sources is revealing the count in hundreds.

Speaking to Sikh24, Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib (appointed by Sarbat Khalsa 2015) Bhai Baljit Singh Daduwal informed that the District Police of Bathinda was directed to remove tents installed at the site of Sarbat Khalsa 2016. However, the accusations of removing tents have been refuted by the SSP Bathinda Swapan Sharma.

Bhai Baljit Singh Daduwal has informed that they have moved a plea against Punjab government’s denial in Punjab & Haryana High Court.  “We will announce our next move after hearing on our petition,” he added.

President of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) S. Simranjit Singh Mann has said that the Badal led Punjab government was in attempt to sabotage the Sarbat Khalsa 2016 event.  “I will set ablaze myself if the Punjab government doesn’t grant permission to hold Sarbat Khalsa,” he added.  S. Mann was earlier detained by the police, however not arrested.

    • That is exactly what they want so they can then claim any decisions and resolutions made only apply to Sikhs outside of India and will even contest that the Sikh Panth is somehow now ‘divided’ and that they legitimately represent the Sikh interest in India. Expulsion of Sikhi is the agenda here and they are more than happy to push that out to NRI Sikhs (over whome they have little control and levers to manipulate and intimidate) whilst retaining complete financial and material control of Sikh assets (Gurdwaras, relics, historical artefacts) which they can then corrupt and adulerate at will (witness the recent instalment of Hindu deity artwork at Darbar Sahib replacing the original floral artwork). The Punjab is Sikh homeland and heartland and we must never lose sight of this as once you have lost your ancestral land you become a homeless people and history shows what happens to such unfortunates. There is also the democratic principle at stake here. Sikhs have committed no crime by wishing to assert their civil and religious liberties which is supposedly guaranteed under Indian Constitution (we as Sikhs joined India with that solemn undertaking given by Nehru and Gandhi) and must stand up for their rights to freedom of association, freedom of speech and freedom to practice their own religion (which includes being able to decide its own internal religious affairs which the Akal Takht was built for).

  1. These people who interfere in our religion, should love & respect sikhs and sikh ideology, which teaches love for everyone & do not interfere in any other’s religion but gave sacrifices for others. They should understand why the Brahman is not telling them about sanatan dharam, about vedas & other religious Granths, and telling them to worship murti. He is just using jaat-paat to control people of India which is also a name given by foreigners & he attacks everyone who wants to show them the real path, so live & let live everyone with freedom.

  2. A disgusting shame for Badal, BJP jundli. It’s not Badal, Badal is nothing, he is just puppet in the hands of BJP-RSS, they are just attacking every one who believes in one God. They are even fooling the people of Bharat by telling them they are Hindus which is mispronounced word Sindu by Persians & treating Dalits like slaves from centuries & saying untouchables. We always helped Hindus, but RSS, BJP which pretends to be Hindu, always interfere in our religion & all other religions.

  3. Yes so much for democracy – of course anyone else but Sikhs cannot voice their concerns or even get together to make decision for the Sikh Kaum. As for becoming a CM it only suits people like Badal who is corrupt and shameless and as for Simranjit Singh Mann he does not need to slip into something so corrupt. How does holding Sarbat Khalsa meaning looking to become CM of Punjab? People with their eyes shut and ears closed can see CM through any corruptive route they like………. Simranjit Singh Mann will always be respected by the SIKHS.

  4. He will never set him self ablaze.
He wants to become CM of Punjab piggy bagging on Sarbatt Khalsa.
He needs to win elections in Punjab 2017 to be its CM.
People will be more than happy to see him as their CM through an Democratic route.

    • ‘He will never set him self ablaze’ – would you even be moved by that act when you are so callous to the ongoing hunger strike of Bapu Surat Singh?

  5. So much for democracy. So much for freedom of speech, so much of freedom of religion( especially Sikh Religion). Any Sikh speaking for rights is automatic ______
