AMRITSAR SAHIB—In a press note shared with Sikh24 on May 10, SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar warmly welcomed the approval of the Sikh Gurdwara Amendment Bill-2016 by the India President, Pranab Mukherjee. Indian President approved the Bill on May 10 after it was cleared by the Rajya Sabha and the Indian Parliament to abolish voting right of Sehajdhari Sikhs in SGPC elections.
SGPC President said that with the passing of this Bill, apostate Sikhs will no longer be eligible to interfere in the management of Sikh shrines. The bill bars ‘Sehajdhari’ Sikhs from voting in SGPC elections, this includes those who trim or shave beard and hair, smoke or drink alcohol.
While Makkar appreciated Pranab Mukherjee, he also credited Chief Minister Parkash Badal and his son Sukhbir for the passing of the bill. In the press note, Makkar said that the duo continuously asked the Union Cabinet led by Narendra Modi to amend the Sikh Gurdwara Act to oust ‘Sehajdharis’ from voting in the SGPC elections.
It is pertinent to note that the validity of SGPC General House was under question due to a case pending about Sehajdhari votes in Supreme Court.

Makkar needs to to be told that apostate Sikhs are not just those who those who trim or shave beard and hair, smoke or drink alcohol but those that also call the Panj Pyare nothing more than employees and hand out unasked for and unmerited pardons to heretics like Ram Rahim. Makkar and his SGPC cronies should not be be eligible to interfere in the management of Sikh shrines and should also be barred from voting in SGPC elections as a Sikh isn’t just one who looks like a Sikh but has to behave like one also. And how ironic and indeed demeaning and disgusting to see Makkar ‘thanking’ a non adherent for interfering in Sikh religious affairs. But then again he and his cronies do that on a daily basis.
