TARN TARAN, Punjab—Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann has said that his party is going to contest Khadoor Sahib bypoll which is slated to be held on February 13, in alliance with United Akali Dal and some other splinter Akali groups including SAD (1920) and SAD (Sutantar). He said name of the candidate would be announced on Jan 25.
The Khadoor Sahib assembly fell vacant as Congress MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki resigned from the post against sacrilege of holy scripture of Guru Granth Sahib in village Batth falling in the segment.
Mann said awareness procession is being carried out from Tarn Taran to Khadoor Sahib on Jan 25 and 26. “Name of the candidate would be announced shortly. In addition, struggle would be launched to get Takht Jathedars appointed on Sarbat Khalsa released”, he added.
It is notable that Sikki and Ravinder Singh Brahmpura are likely candidates of Congress and SAD (Badal) respectively. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided not to contest the poll but its 2 dissidents, Bhai Baldeep Singh and Dr. Sumel Singh Sidhu have announced to contest the poll as independent candidates.
