:dateline:The following write up on Bapu Surat Singh Khalsas hunger strike has been submitted by Bhai Pritpal Singh, a Sikh activist who has long supported Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa. Pritpal Singh spent a lot of time with Bapu Surat Singh when he initiated the struggle for the release of political prisoners.

Continued from Part 1

Bapu JiAmid this extremely critical period, Bhai Papalpreet Singh and i went to Hassanpur on February 28. Bhai Ravinder JeetSingh Gogi was sent to jail till that time and no one was there at Bapu Jis home. All the prominent activists of Sikh bodies had gone underground at that time due to raids being conducted on their houses by the Punjab police. Some of them used to call Aunty Sarvarinder Kaur from unknown numbers just to inquire about the circumstances of the struggle; however whenever Aunty Ji tried to contact these leaders, they didnt responded.

One thing that I observed in these days was that majority of the activists around Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa were inspired by Uncle Satwinder Singh Bhola. He was the backbone of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsas struggle. It was his intellect and generous contribution at the back end to this struggle, which hiked the mass support towards Bapu Jis struggle compelling the Punjab Government to recommend transfer of Prof. Devinderpal Singh Bhullar and Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khaira to Punjab.

On March 1, Bhai Papalpreet Singh came back to Amritsar due to engagement in a relief project for the family of a martyred Singh. Aunty Ji and I firstly went to Civil Hospital of Ludhiana to meet Bapu Ji as he was being detained and force fed there. The police contingents deployed there denied us permission to meet Bapu Ji and suggested us to consult ADGP Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar to get permission. We then routed to Court Complex of Ludhiana to meet ADGP Mukhwinder Bhullar but he was not there as it was a Sunday on March 1.

So next day on March 2, we again went to Civil Hospital and after being denied the permission to meet Bapu Ji we went to meet ADGP Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar. ADGP Bhullar was surprised to see Aunty Ji in his office, and staring at me he inquired about me from Aunty Ji. She introduced me as her relative to ADGP Bhullar. We asked him to grant permission to meet Bapu Ji but he denied roughly.

Later, Bhai Jang Singh (Brother-in-law of Bhai Lakhwinder Singh Lakha), Advocate Gurjinder Singh Sahni, Bhai Bhawandeep Singh Sidhu, Aunty Ji and I went to Police Commissioner of Ludhiana, who thoroughly discussed about the issue of Political Sikh prisoners and suggested us to present the list of those Sikh detainees who have completed their sentence terms. He immediately called ADGP Bhullar and allowed us to meet Bapu Ji in his presence. He also said that you are being granted to meet Bapu Ji on the condition that you will convince him to give up the struggle. We didnt utter a word as our prime goal was to meet Bapu Ji to check his condition andhow he was doing there.

ADGP Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar asked us to reach Civil Hospital in the afternoon and wait for him to meet Bapu Ji.

(Note: Major blunder was made earlier while representing the list of political Sikh prisoners to the Punjab government. Actually, when an SSP asked for the list of Sikh detainees at Hassanpur, someone gave him the whole list of political Sikh prisoners that Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur has been updating from long time. Later, DGP Sumedh Saini even tried to defame Bapu Jis struggle on the basis of this list by holding a Press Conference. For being a list of all political Sikh prisoners, names of militants like Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara wasalso in the list who was recently deported from Thailand to India.)
