After Kejriwal, Rahul Gandhi Visits Kotkapura Shaheed Families; Akalis Missing In Action

FARIDKOT, Punjab—Following the visit of Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal to the families of Kotkapura martyrs, Rahul Gandhi too visited the families.  During his visit to to families of Bhai Gurjit Singh in village Sarawan and Bhai Krishan Bhagwan Singh in village Behbal Kalan, the two who were killed in gun-fire opened by Punjab police, Gandhi appealed to Punjab Government to arrest the guilty police officers immediately.

Extending his condolences to the deceased families, Gandhi announced to handover a memorandum to the President seeking strict action against the police contingents responsible for opening gun-fire on peacefully protesting Sikhs. He appealed to youth to build pressure on the government to take strict measures against the culprits.

While Gandhi’s visit has been termed as a “publicity stunt” by the Akalis, it is important to note that so far no senior Akali leader has visited either of the families.  Absence of the Akali leaders was noticed at the funeral and bhog of both Sikhs.
