AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—In a meeting of Panthik bodies held at Ravinder Palace on Chamrang Road in Amritsar Sahib, Panthik leaders have resolved to call a ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ on Bandi Chhod Diwas at Diwali, and to observe ‘shut down’ of Puanjb for a half day, on September 30 in protest of Jathedar’s act of exonerating Gurmeet Ram Rahim. The meeting was called by the United Akali Dal’s President Bhai Mohkam Singh.
Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Prof. Gurdarshan Singh Dhillon (Professor of History, Punjab University) appealed the Sikh masses to organize an online campaign to acquaint unaware Sikh masses with the decision of Jathedars’. He maintained that as an abundant section of Sikhs is residing abroad, so it’s necessary to aware such socially distanced people about the issue.
Representatives of all Panthik bodies attended this meeting to chalk out the future course of action against Jathedars’ move of exonerating Sirsa Cult chief. Prof. Gurdarshan Singh Dhillon, S. Baljit Singh Khalsa (Editor of Magazine ‘Vangaar’), Bhai Balwant Singh Gopala (President, Sikh Youth Federation Bhindranwala), Bhai Jaskaran Singh Kahan Singh Wala (General Secretary, Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar), Bhai Mohkam Singh, Bhai Gurdeep Singh Bathinda, Bhai Baldev Singh Sirsa (Representative of Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) and Dal Khalsa), S. Simranjit Singh Mann, Bhai Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad (President, AISSF) and many more others were present on this occasion.
The conclave concludes up urging Akal Takht Jathedar to restore to previous state of socially boycotting Sirsa Cult disciples and Chief. Following moves were made during the meeting:
- ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ will be called on Diwali
- Civilians of Punjab have been urged to observe half day shut from morning hours to 2pm on September 30 in protest of Jathedars’ decision. Educational infrastructures and Hospitals are exempted.
- Jathedars’ should be pressurized to reconsider their step of pardoning Sirsa cult chief.
Isn’t this why historically one of the Takhts has always been the constituency (sangat)?
