Sangharsh Committee Members Remain Under Arrest, Situation Remains Tense in Hassanpur

LUDHIANA, Punjab—A number of sangarsh committee members were picked up yesterday by the police.  Prior to their arrests, there members were planning to take out a large scale march to Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and they had warned the Punjab Government to release Sikh political prisoners or fear the collapse of the Government in near future.

The Bandi Singhs Rihai Sangharsh Committee constituted to spearhead the struggle of Sikh activist Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa had stated that Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa is in a very critical condition and has fell unconscious three times.  They mentioned that if anything was to happen to Bapu Surat Singh, the Government would have to face fury of the Sikh Sangat in Punjab.

The statement by the sangarsh committee had come shortly before many of them were picked up and arrested by the police.

The arrested sangarsh committee members have remained barred even though the Government has announced to not interfere in Bapu Ji’s hunger strike.  Meanwhile, the situation has remained tense in Hassanpur.  Even though the Sikh Sangat present at Bapu Ji’s residence has complied with the police requests, they remain present outside the house in large numbers.
