Sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib: Akal Takhat Sahib seeks accused be held immediately

AMRITSAR SAHIB—In a press note shared with Sikh24, Giani Gurbachan Singh, the appointed Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib has strongly condemned the incident of sacrilege of Holy Scriptures of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in Kotli Mahia village of district Gurdaspur.  Giani Gurbachan Singh has demanded immediate arrest of the accused.

Jathedar has claimed that the sacrilege had been committed in planned manner with intention to disturb the harmony and peace across the state.

“It seems to be the handiwork of some mischievous elements, which need to be exposed, I feel this is a planned conspiracy as there has been a rise in such incidents in recent times,” he added.

Jathedar also raised questions over the working of police and administration. He said that Police could has failed to arrest culprits, and this exposed their biased nature.

Jathedar also came down on the Gurdwara Management Committees by saying that instructions of appointing permanent resident Granthis in Gurdwaras had been given numerous times, but committees are not taking it seriously.

It is notable that on July 15, Granthi of the Gurdwara Sahib at village Kotli Mahia noticed angs missing in Holy Scripture of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. On getting acquainted with the issue, the panchayat of the village lodged complaint in Police station.
