NEW DELHI—Former joint secretary of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) Kartar Singh Kochar has formed a new party—Delhi Gurdwara Prabandh Sudhar—and submitted a memorandum to the Minister of Gurdwara Affairs, Kapil Mishra.

Kartar Singh along with nine other members today visited the Directorate of Delhi Gurdwara Affairs and submitted the memorandum, demanding amendment to the Delhi Gurdwara Act and Anti-Defection Law. They also demanded a limit to poll expenditure and a photograph on election cards to check bogus voting.Kochar said that the minister informed the delegation that amendment to the Delhi Gurdwara Act is done by the Union government. The Delhi Government can only suggest the amendment. As far as photograph on election cards is concerned, the government will do it.

Earlier, Kochar had honoured four Sikh MLAs of AAP-Jarnail Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Avtar Singh Kalka and Jarnail Singh of Tilak Nagar-for raising the issue of 1984 riots in the Legislative Assembly during the Budget session.

In Delhi Sikh politics, the Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi) led by Paramjit Singh Sarna is supported by the Congress while the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has the support of BJP.

According to the sources, Kochar’s party will be supported by the AAP in gurdwara politics though AAP spokesperson Deepak Bajpayee denied supporting any political wing in the gurdwara politics.  Kochar said those who are against corruption will support him. “I am fighting against corruption in gurdwara committee,” he said.
