NEW DELHI, India—Punjab chief minister Parkash Badal has been caught into typical situation. His Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal has thrown the ball in Badal’s court in matter of Prof Devinder Pal Singh Bhuller, Sikh political prisoner, who is languishing in Tihar jail Delhi. On Saturday, he wrote a letter to Badal to shift Prof Bhuller from Delhi to Amritsar.

In the letter, Kejriwal said that Delhi government had no objection in shifting Prof. Bhuller to Punjab. On the other hand, Badal has set up a high power committee to decide over the matter.

Kejriwal’s letter has brought interesting twist in political environment of Punjab. If Badal refused to bring Prof. Bhuller to Amritsar, he would have to face deep outrage from pro-freedom Sikhs whose sizable impact can be witnessed in the state. If he decides to do so, he would have to face fury from his alliance partner BJP, saffron Hindu party.
