Bapu Surat Singh’s Morcha: Police Arrests Sangharsh Committee Members For Brief Period

LUDHIANA, Punjab—Punjab Police today arrested members of Bandi Singh Rihaii Sangharsh committee who were protesting against buses owned by ruling Badal family in wake of ongoing hunger strike by Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa for permanent release of Sikh political prisoners.

Led by convener Gurdeep Singh Bathinda, committee organized a protest to build pressure on the government to release the Sikh prisoners who have been languishing in various jails of India despite completion of their terms.

Besides three dozen Sikh activists, Committee members Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala (Damdami Taksal), Bapu Surat Singh’s daughter Bibi Sarwinder Kaur, Jasvir Singh Khandoor, Daily Pehredar’s editor Jaspal Singh Heran, Baba Hardeep Singh Mehraj (Akali Dal Panch Pardhani), Bhai Jang Singh were among those who were arrested by the police.

These activists were later released by the police.

It has also been learnt that a Sikh youth named Bhai Amritpal Singh Jodhpur climbed on Water tank of Hassanpur, village of Bapu Surat Singh.

On the other hand, Bapu Jee whose hunger strike had entered 141st day, is in hospital. Police hospitalized him forcibly few days ago.
