FATEHGARH SAHIB, Punjab—Yesterday, the Jatha of Gursikhs which was arrested included a young Sikh boy and an elderly Sikh lady. Over 70 Gursikhs courted arrest at will to protest prolonged detention of Sikh political prisoners.
The picture of a young Singh, aged just 5, sitting in police bus has gone viral on social media. People have condemned the Punjab Government for arresting a young Sikh boy. The young Singh, Gursharanjeet Singh, was along with his father when they were arrested.
In addition to the young boy, an elderly Gursikh bibi was also present in the Jatha.
This Jatha was later released from police custody. Jatha included prominent Sikh personalities, including Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala (Damdami Taksal), Bhai Bakhshish Singh and Bhai RP Singh from Akhand Kirtani Jatha, Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema, Bhai Mohkam Singh and Bhai Gurdeep Singh from United Akali Dal. A number of Gursikhs from Haryana also accompanied the Jatha.
