‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ Movie: Giani Gurbachan Singh Asks SGPC To Decide Upon Fate of the Film

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Controversy on Hindi movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ has deepened as various Sikh organizations including some sections of SGPC are demanding ban on it citing that the movie has hurt religious sentiment of Sikhs.  The upcoming movie presents personified characters of Guru Nanak, his family members and aide Bhai Mardana.

Sri Akal Takht Sahib appointed Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has said that the matter comes under the jurisdiction of the SGPC as it has passed resolution on determining rules and regulations in such matters. He said the SGPC could take any action about the film made by Harinder Sikka.

He made it clear that though he praised the producer Sikka for the effort but it should not be considered as approval to the film. On being questioned, he said no ‘Hukamnama’ has been issued as any decision in this regard could be taken only by the SGPC.

It is worth mentioning the film is slated to be release on April 17, but Sikhs throughout the world seeking ban on it.
