SRINAGAR, Jammu & Kashmir—At the time when the Sikh Nation is struggling for the release of political prisoners from various jails in Punjab and India, the Kashmiri Nationalist Party has taken a bold step. In spite of opposition of its alliance partner BJP, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) patron and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minster Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Saturday released Kashmiri freedom fighter Masarat Alam from Baramula jail.
Alam is leader of Hurriyat Conference, organization struggling for independence of Kashmir. He played key role in movement witnessed in 2010 over Amarnath land row. He was in detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA) since October 2010, was shifted to Srinagar and released from the Shaheed Gunj police station at 9 pm. He did not speak to the media after his release.
BJP made harsh reaction toward the move and its leaders staged protest on various places. Taking a jibe at Mufti, a senior BJP leader asked him whether he is Indian or national of other country.
However, pro-freedom sections of Indian civil society including Sikhs lauded the fearless move which has irked all Hindu fascist outfits who want to crush struggling nations in Indian peninsula.
Prior to this, Mufti thanked Pakistan and armed Kashmiri fighters for ensuring successful polling in Jammu and Kashmir and sought remains of martyr Mohammad Afzal alias Afzal Guru.
