Jathedar Vedanti Seeks Sarbat Khalsa to Decide the Role of Takht Jathedars

PATIALA, Punjab—Former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti has said that to sort out the issue of powers, disciplines and salary of a Jathedar of a Takht, Sarbat Khalsa needs to be called. He said that the committee organized to sort out this issue can only give suggestions and it doesn’t deserve any right to implement any article. Also, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee doesn’t deserve this right.

Talking about the suspension of Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh, Jathedar Vedanti said that this decision is totally wrong and it was taken in eagerness.

He said that in earlier times, Sarbat Khalsa was considered by centralizing the various Misals that doesn’t happen in the age of today. He said that SGPC is also not worth Sarbat Khalsa. He said that to call Sarbat Khalsa in the current time, evaluation of Sikh intellectuals and organizations of India and abroad is necessary.

Jathedar Vedanti said that the right of appointment and suspension of a Jathedar of a Takht should be made out of reach of SGPC. Jathedar Vedanti advocated the allotting of this right to Sarbat Khalsa, so that the Jathedars can act independently for the well being of Sikhism.
