SAD (Amritsar) and Other Political Parties Announce Support For AAP in Delhi Polls

AAP newNEW DELHI, India—Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM), Communist Party of India (CPI), Trinmool Congress, Janta Dal (United) and other pro-people and pro-minority political groups have announced to support Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Extending support to AAP led by Arvind Kejriwal, SAD (A) president Simranjit Singh Mann has given a call to Delhi Punjabi people to defeat the Saffron Party and its ally Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and Congress.

In a statement issued here, Mann said Congress and BJP government in center have been delivering injustice to Sikhs and both are responsible for the repression of minorities and 1984 Sikh genocide.

As part of their strategy to contain a resurgent BJP in the country, the Left parties on Thursday announced support to Aam Aadmi Party in the Delhi’s Assembly constituencies where they have not fielded candidates.

Announcing support to AAP, CPM general secretary Prakash Karat said: “We want to defeat the BJP,” and added that his party would work for broader Left unity to build a potent spectrum against the BJP.

The combined Left, consisting of six parties, has put up candidates at 15 of the 70 constituencies in Delhi.

The CPM, which along with the CPI is considered to be the major in the Left rainbow, however, expressed no love lost for the Congress as far as the Delhi elections are concerned. But its priority is to defeat the BJP, which is facing a fierce challenge from AAP, as indicated by poll surveys.

The CPI followed the CPM in pledging support to AAP.

On the other hand, West Bangal ruling Party Trinmool Congress led by Mamta Banerjee and Bihar ruling party Janta Dal (United) led by Sharad Yadav have also passed their support to AAP.
