Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa’s Supporters Pledge to Continue “Rehai Campaign”

LUDHIANA, Punjab—In a statement, Bhai Gurpreet Singh Guri has stated that he will continue the campaign for the release of Sikh prisoners, however using means other than a hunger strike.  Bhai Gurpreet Singh accompanied Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa since day one of the hunger strike at Lakhnaur Sahib.  He remained the media advisor to Bhai Gurbaksh Singh until he was taken to the hospital.

Bhai Gurpreet Singh Guri, along with other Singhs such as Bhai Gurpiar Singh, Bhai Bagicha Singh Waraich and others left Gurdwara Lakhnaur Sahib for Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. However since they did not have permission to protest there, police arrested them for a short while, before releasing them after a warning.

Bhai Guri stated that Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa helped take the plight of Sikh prisoners to the international Sikh community.

“I am not sure why Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa broke his fast, perhaps his family was pressured by the Government,” stated Bhai Guri.  “Bhai Khalsa remained in rising spirits until he was with us at Gurdwara Lakhnaur Sahib,” he added.

“I cannot comment on what caused him to derail from his promises after we left for Delhi.”

“We will continue the campaign for the release of Sikh prisoners, but in what form, is still to be decided.”  Bhai Gurpreet Singh asked Sikhs for continued support.

It is important to mention that the “Bandi Singh Rehai Committee” setup during the first hunger strike is still functioning, however the committee has not communicated with Bhai Gurbaksh Singh.  Damandeep Singh Khalsa, a Sikh youth from Ludhiana who sat on hunger strike in absence of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, remained critical of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh ever since the first hunger strike came to an end.
