CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Paving the way for the removal of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh, 150 SGPC member on Thursday submitted a memorandum to president Avtar Singh Makkar seeking the dismissal of Jathedar Nandgarh.

In the memorandum, SGPC members led by Amarjit Chawla alleged that Jathedar Nandgarh did not respect Guru Granth Sahib and Panj Pyaras in the Nagar Kirtan. They sought action against Jathedar Nandgarh on this ground.

They also demanded a prompt solution to issues of the Nanakshahi Calendar, Section 25 (2) (b) and the release of Sikh political prisoners.

While receiving the memorandum, Makkar said Jathedar Nandgarh committed a gross blunder by calling Panj Pyaras RSS agents. He said his non-participation in the Nagar Kirtan was also unfair. He said the matter would be discussed in an executive meeting slated on Jan 17.

The development has confirmed the proposed removal of Jathedar Nandgarh.

It is worth mentioning that Jathedar Nandgarh has been taking a firm stand in favour of the original Nanakshahi calendar which represents the separate identity of Sikhism and all Panthik organizations are endorsing his stand. But under the pressure of RSS, SGPC implements the amended Nanakshahi Calendar which is close to the Bikrami calendar. Due to which, it is keen in sacking Jathedar Nandgarh against Panthik aspirations.
