FATEHGARH SAHIB—President of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), Sardar Simranjit Singh Mann said that if the government can create ground to ensure the release of murderers like Gurmeet alias Pinky and offer him a job in the Police, then why does the government play up its helplessness in the cases of Sikh political prisoners. He said that Pinky was accused in criminal cases, but none of the Sikh prisoners are even accused in criminal cases.

S. Mann said that a statement by Sumedh Saini (Director General of Punjab Police) has made it clear that the Punjab Government doesn’t hold any interest in ensuring the release of Sikh detainees. He said that when S. Balwant Singh Rajoana was about to be executed in Patiala Jail in March, 2012, Chief Minister Badal wrote to the government that Rajoana should be executed, but not in the jails of Punjab. S. Mann said that this is enough to show the commitment of Badal towards Sikhism.

S. Mann said that Akali Dal (Badal) is using the funds of SGPC for political purposes and that Sikhs will never flourish until they are disassociated from Akali Dal (Badal).
