Navjot Singh Sidhu Writes Apology Letter to Akal Takht for Distorting Gurbani

AMRITSAR, Punjab—Former cricket player turned Politician and former BJP parliament member Navjot Singh Sidhu sent a written apology letter to the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib Giani Gurbachan Singh for his “distortion of Gurbani” incident. Giani Gurbachan Singh has confirmed that he has received Sidhu letter from one of Sidhu’s supporters.

Navjot Singh Sidhu in the apology letter stated that if he has knowingly or unknowingly committed anything which has hurt the sentiments of the Sikhs, he apologises. When Jathedar Giani Gurbachan read the letter he responded with “The fate of Sidhu’s written apology would be decided in the next meeting of the Sikh high priests (Jathedars) which is yet to be fixed.”

Navjot Singh Sidhu’s alleged “distortion of Gurbani” can be recalled when Sidhu courted controversy while speaking from a stage in Ludhiana during a religious function. Sidhu’s companions were also attacked two times in Jammu by some Sikh groups who said they were protesting against Sidhu and his convoys because of Sidhu’s distortion of Gurbani. Sidhu however said that the Sikh groups didn’t attack him and his convoy because of the Gurbani distortion incident, but because of the behest of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal.

Responding to his allegations for distorting Gurbani Sidhu said, “Navjot Singh Sidhu has always been a humble servant of God, and bows every day before Akal Takht Sahib. If any Sikh’s sentiment has been ever hurt by me I can apologize 1 lakh times before every Sikh and the sacred Akal Takht. My religion is most sacred to me and my life is mentored by the teachings of Shri Guru Granth Sahib. I have never used religion to gratify selfish vested interests or settle personal scores like Badal Sahib (CM Punjab) who is famous for playing political games under the garb of religion . He has nothing politically against me so is going overboard to settle his personal scores because of his own insecurity. I forgive all those who play puppets in the hand of Badal Sahib. Sikhism is all about tolerance and universal brotherhood”.
