HYDRABAD, Andhra Pradesh, India—The police have decided to lift day-time curfew from violence-affected areas of Rajendranagar and Kishanbagh while continuing the curfew at night from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. for a few more days. The decision was made after finding that a calm atmosphere prevails in Arsh Mahal and at Sikh Chawni in Kishanbagh.

Three persons were killed and seven received bullet injuries resulting from shooting when Police were ordered to open fire on the people of Sikhs and Muslims communities who clashed over the burning of a Nishan Sahib (flag of Sikhs) by miscreants on Wednesday. Another five people sustained injuries from stoning and stabbings. Police have arrested around 40 persons for their alleged involvement in the violence.  Up until Sunday 17 of them have been registered cases. More people could become registered cases as several affected families have not yet lodged complaints.

C.V. Anand, Cyberabad Commissioner, met the representatives of both the communities who made assurances to co-operate with the police, and maintain peace.

Meanwhile, activists of the Muslim outfit Darsgah Jihad-O-Shahadath conducted a demonstration at Madina Building condemning the shooting by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at Kishanbagh. The police quickly rounded them up and moved them to Kanchanbagh police station,  but set free them in the evening.
