SACRAMENTO, California—Sacramento Valley Charter School (SVCS) is celebrating the success of the school and its students, after receiving a five year renewal from the Washington Unified School District on May 8, 2014.

“We are very pleased that the District has recognized our efforts by reauthorizing the school. It is also exciting to announce that for the second straight year our school has surpassed the test scores posted by Sacramento area school districts. Since we opened our doors to students in 2011, the SVCS Board, administration, teachers, staff, and community members have come together to ensure the success of our children and the school,” said Dr. Narinder Dhaliwal, SVCS Board Chairman. “We are very pleased that our test results live up to our school motto Learn, Compete, Excel. We are sending a special invitation to West Sacramento parents to register their children and join our community.”

SVCS students once again did exceptionally well in Academic Performance Index (API) and Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) testing, particularly in mathematics. For the second year, the school is a member of the exclusive ‘800 Club’ with an API of 837. Students had higher math scores than students in schools from Sacramento, Natomas, West Sacramento, and Elk Grove while English scores were on par with local districts.

“My staff, students, parents, and I are pleased with the STAR results, and the API score. The data is an indication that our educational program and mission to Learn, Compete and Excel are producing positive results. We will continue to work to raise the bar in the standards and quality of education that we provide,” said Jane Egashira, SCVS Principal.

“One of the challenges before us is to increase the number of students that attend SVCS from local neighborhoods,” said Amar Shergill, local attorney and SVCS Board member. “We want every West Sacramento Valley Charter School, Sacramento City Unified, Washington Unified School District, Natomas Unified School District, Elk Grove Unified District, English, Math, 2013 API SCORES., STAR Testing Results, 2012-2013 Grade 2-6, Percentage at, or above Proficient, Sacramento family to know that their children are welcome, and that we are providing an excellent learning environment for all. Before the start of the next school year, we will complete an expansion of the campus and expect to attract even more students to our educational program.”

Parents of students attending SVCS have provided an overwhelming level of support and positive feedback in regards to the performance of their kids and SVCS staff. Paul and Nikki Pannu, parents of three children attending SVCS, stated, “All three of our kids did exceptionally well at SVCS, both academically and socially. Our middle child made it to the regional spelling bee competition, and our eldest was nominated as a 2012 California Young Scholar. Their confidence in themselves was boosted, and we have seen a change in how they interact with others. While in public school prior to SVCS, our two elder kids were very shy and apprehensive about even raising their hands in class. Now they can read aloud in front of the class without feeling nervous. It is an excellent school for students to learn and excel. The achievements of our kids would not have been possible without the competitive curriculum, small class sizes, and dedication of the staff at SVCS.”

SVCS prides itself on providing a competitive and supportive learning environment for its students. SVCS strives to reduce the pressures on families by providing quality education, subsidized transportation, and free vegetarian lunches for every student. The result is a learning environment designed to give every child the highest possible chance at academic success.

Local Elected Officials Congratulate SVCS

Assembly member Mariko Yamada stated, “Academic excellence is only part of the SVCS success story. Providing a safe, secure learning environment that considers the ‘whole child’ is equally important to student achievement. Congratulations as you launch your expansion to welcome more eager learners to your campus. I believe the best is yet to come.”

Alicia Cruz, WUSD School board Trustee remarked, “I would like to congratulate the students and staff for their hard work at the SVCS in West Sacramento. As a newer school it is sometimes harder to get your feet off the ground and achieve the outstanding test scores your school did. I am always excited to hear about the education of our students, especially in West Sacramento. I again congratulate your staff and students on a job well done. I wish you continued success in your future endeavors!”

Sarah Kirby-Gonzalez WUSD School board Trustee said, “Sacramento Valley Charter School should be proud of the work they do to provide a quality education to their students. It’s wonderful to have a multicultural program which includes a rich cultural environment and carries on traditions for young people.”

Mark Johannessen, West Sacramento Councilmember declared “SVCS has been a wonderful addition to the academic and community fabric of West Sacramento. Its success is a tribute to not only its strong staff, but to the involvement of SVCS parents in their children’s education and their investment in the success of their children.”
