NEW DELHI—Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, on Wednesday, held a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and demanded a probe into the 1984 Sikh Genocide from a Special investigation Team (SIT).

Kejriwal said after the meeting that formation of the SIT and other details would be discussed in the next cabinet meeting. On the other hand, the right-wing BJP had a harsh reaction over the move by the Delhi CM saying that he was doing nothing new as the BJP had also taken such measures earlier.

Earlier, Kejriwal had also written a letter to Sikh activist Bhai Iqbal Singh Bhatti, who has been on a hunger strike since December 5, 2013 at Jantar Mantar and made assurances that he will address the concerns for which Bhai Iqbal Singh had been striking. In the letter, Kejriwal wrote, “Delhi Government has already recommended to the President the release of Prof. Bhullar and would also be working on other issues including formation of SIT, in sympathetic and time bound manner.”

Meanwhile, an objectionable statement made by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi in an interview given to a TV news channel, has highlighted the issue of Sikh Genocide. In the statement, he flatly refused to apologise for the 1984 Sikh Genocide for which his party—and family—was directly responsible.
