CHANDIGARH, Punjab—After completing their 28-days parole, Bhai Shamsher Singh and Bhai Lakhwinder Singh, who are facing life imprisonment in the Beant assassination case, returned to Burail Jail this past Saturday.  Despite having already spent close to two decades in jail, both Bhai Shamsher Singh and Lakhwinder Singh appeared in high spirits.

Earlier, both the Sikh political prisoners, along with their family members, paid obeisance at Mohali based historical Sikh Gurdwara, Amb Sahib.

As per concerned authorities’ instructions, both the Sikh prisoners have gone to local police stations two times in a week for attendance during their parole period.

Bhai Gurmeet Singh, a third political prisoner, returned to Burail Jail on 23 January, 2014.

Beant “Singh” was assassinated by Sikhs after he continued to commit crimes against humanity and genocide against innocent Sikhs with no signs of letting up.

While talking to media persons, Bhai Shamsher Singh said, “During my entire parole period, I visited Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar along with my family only once and remaining period was passed inside the walls of my house. Although, a period of 28 days of parole is very short for spending life moments with family, the opportunity came after a very long time. Earlier, I came out of the Jail to attend the marriage ceremonies of my daughter and niece, but only for a day each under tight security.”

Through media, he greeted the Sikh nation’s well wishers living all across the world and appealed to them to take measures for permanent parole.

The occasion was filled with emotions when Onkar Singh, son of Shamsher Singh, began to give his father his belongings. The son wept bitterly while hugging his father. This left other family members’ eyes wet. Bhai Shamsher Singh gave condolences to them and entered the prison.

Members of Bandi Singh Rihai Morcha Advocate Amar Singh Chahal, Bhai R.P. Singh, Bhai Satnam Singh Paunta Sahib, Gurnam Singh Sidhu and Bibi Kulbir Kaur Dhami were also present on the occasion.

They jointly said that they were making persistent efforts for the permanent release of Bhai Gurmeet Singh, Bhai Shamsher Singh, and Bhai Lakhwinder Singh.

Particularly, Advocate Chahal said that they are going ahead with the petition by Bhai Gurmeet Singh and Bhai Shamsher Singh. Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered the Punjab government, Chandigarh Administration, and Burail Jail authority to reply on the matter. He added that the petition by Bhai Lakhwinder Singh for permanent parole would also be filed in High Court after he has signed the documents.
