Gurwinder Singh, PPS, ACP South has alleged he did not remove the dastar

AMRITSAR SAHIB—The Amritsar Police officer who removed the dastar of one of the Punj Pyare at the march yesterday outside Sri Akal Takht Sahib has been recognized as Gurwinder Singh, ACP (South).  Sikh24 has spoken with him to verify if he was on duty.  As per his statement, he was in the front asking the Sikh Sangat to not proceed as he was ordered to do.  He expressed grief over the incident and alleged that he did not touch the dastar of the Singh.

The dastar of Manpreet Singh, who was doing seva as the Nishan Sahib bearer, was removed in the commotion between the Sikh Sangat and Punjab Police.  A picture of the police officer next to Manpreet Singh has been spotted on various Facebook accounts.

Gurwinder Singh told Sikh24 that he is a Sikh himself and would not touch the dastar of a Singh.  He further alleged that he has already apologized at Akal Takht Sahib for the incident.  Gurwinder Singh told Sikh24 that senior Government officials had strictly instructed the police to halt the march across Punjab at all costs.

As reported by Sikh24 earlier, “Sikh Sangat was adamant about going on with its planned march.  During one of the incidents, a senior police officer from Amritsar Sahib misbehaved and pushed one of the Singhs in the Punj Pyare (5 beloved ones).  His dastar was removed forcibly which led to elevated tensions between the Sangat and police.  Sikh Sangat was also present in large numbers outside Sri Darbar Sahib.  An agitation was held at once close to the Jallianwala Bhag by a large number of Sikhs.”
