Sikhs Stage Protest in Mohali on 29th Anniversary of November 1984 Genocide

SAS NAGAR, Punjab—On the day when Diwali was being celebrated by common people, Sikhs assembled in large numbers at Gurdwara Amb Sahib, SAS Nagar, Mohali, at 9.00 AM on the call of Daily “Pehredar”, a popular newspaper, and other Sikh organizations. After performing ardas, Sikh Sangat began to march on the road uttering the chant of Satnam Waheguru.  A protest took place at the Chowk (intersection) of Phase 7 and 8 where the Sikh Sangat slammed the cruel system of India and continued reciting naam and bani.

It is significant to note that the protest was well disciplined.  Sikh Sangat protested peacefully while demonstrating that the Sikhs were only looking to express their dissatisfaction with the Government and not disturb the common people.

Many noted Sikh personalities named Bhai Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad (President AISSF), Bibi Harjinder Kaur (former mayor of Chandigarh), Bhai Hardeep Singh (SGPC), Bhai Pal Singh (State President All India Human Rights and Voice of Nature AIHRVN), Bhai Manjit Singh Lovely, and Bhai Jatinder Singh (President Kalgidhar Sewak Jatha) took part in the protest.

While protesting, various Sikh leaders also addressed the sangat.  Bhai Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad thanked the management and lead sevadars for organizing the protest.  He asked all Sikhs to work together to seek justice.  In regards to Sikh Genocide Petition that was submitted to the United Nations, he stated, “by submitting petition of the case of Sikh Genocide to UNHRC containing 10 lakh (1 million) signatures, the Sikhs have proved that they have not forgotten their martyrs even after three decades.”

SGPC Memeber Bhai Hardeep Singh said, “Hindutva  elements have always tried to oppress the minority communities but Sikhs have never tolerated that and know very well how to get their rights as taught by their ancestors.”  Bibi Harjinder Kaur stated, “Whole nation should unite on single platform in order to get perpetrators of 1984 carnage punished.”

S. Sukhwinder Singh, an activist fighting for victims of Sikh Genocide lashed out Narinder Modi and Rahul Gandhi in relation to their statements given few days ago and said, “Both the leaders should dare to talk with victims of November 1984 carnage in presence of media.”
