Appeal by SOPW to Support Medical Treatment for Young Harneet Kaur

LONDON, UK—A few weeks ago, Sikh Organization for Prison Welfare launched an appeal for Harneet Kaur’s medical aid—you may have seen the advert that is currently showing on Sikh Channel UK.

Harneet is the 9 year old daughter of Bhai Amarjeet Singh, who has been falsely imprisoned for 4.5 years and is being supported by SOPW.

At the tender age of 4, Harneet had to witness her father being taken away and her mother, Davinder Kaur, struggle financially and emotionally, to cope in his absence.

Harneet has spent most of her childhood without the role model of her father—nobody can make up for this loss. Harneet’s mother relied on relatives for the extra support she needed.

Although Amarjeet Singh is back home on bail now, the tortures of prison life have left him with a heart condition which means he is limited in the type of work he can do. To add to the family’s burden, Harneet has now been diagnosed with cancer in her leg and is undergoing treatment at the PGI Hospital in Chandigarh.

SOPW appeals to the Sangat, “support this deserving family in their time of need and help us to get the best treatment and medicine for Harneet. We urge every Gurdwara, business, or organisation that follows Guru Nanak’s principle of ‘Vand ke Shakna,’ to please contact us with your support for Harneet.

“Harneet is not only the daughter of Bhai Amarjeet Singh and Bibi Davinder Kaur, but she is the daughter of the entire Sikh panth. Let’s work together to give this family back their peace of mind.”
