AMRITSAR SAHIB—Giani Gurbachan Singh, appointed Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, has asked the SGPC to take up the “dastar” issue with high priority. Jathedar asked Avtar Makkar to raise the issue with the Punjab and Centre Governments so that Sikhs living in European countries do not have to face discrimination for wearing religious articles of the Sikh faith. Giani Gurbachan Singh asked Sikhs from all organisations to come together and raise their voice for Sikh religious freedom.
Giani Gurbachan Singh stated that as per religious mandates, all Sikhs must adorn turbans thus it is wrong for countries like France and Germany to impose such bans. He further stated that Sikhs living in Western countries should open their own schools where Sikh children and children of other faiths could get educations without being discriminated against.
As per the statements, Sikhs should lead the way in ending discrimination by providing facilities to not only Sikh students, but others as well.
Jathedar stated that such cases should be fought in courts and all Sikhs should provide their assistance to take them forward.
