Appeal to Declare Sri Amritsar a Holy City

harmandir_sahibAMRITSAR SAHIB—An appeal has been made to Punjab CM Parkash Badal to declare the holy city of Amritsar Sahib as Pavitar Shehr or Holy City  and give it worldwide recognition. This suggestion was made by the Chairman of Sai Miya Meer Foundation, Hardyal Singh Aman after declaring the city of Panja Sahib, now in Pakistan, a Holy City. The move made by the Pakistan Government shows its respect towards the Sikh religion.

Amritsar is considered as the active religious and political centre of Sikh activities and the presence of the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) and other historical Gurdwaras and landmarks make it a significant city in Punjab.

SGPC President Avtar Makkar, in a meeting held at Chandigarh with Arif Choudhary (Consulate of Pakistan Home Ministry), said that the Sikh community is elated with the decision and it would help in strengthening the ties between India and Pakistan. He said that the SGPC being the prime religious Sikh organization, would encourage the Pakistani government to take special care of the Gurdwaras as well as the heritage buildings associated with Sikh Generals. Makkar also congratulated Nawaz Sharif for becoming the PM of Pakistan

Hardyal Singh Aman has appealed to  Giani Gurbachan Singh, Avtar Makkar and Parkash Badal to make efforts towards the improvement of Amritsar Sahib by curbing the drug menace on the city.
