Delhi Gurdwara Committee Seeks Input on 1984 Sikh Genocide Memorial

NEW DELHI—Inviting sangat to design the newly proposed 1984 Genocide Memorial in Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib Delhi, The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Mangement Committee has called for the expert advice of professionals from various fields. The DSGMC is in the process of seeking advice from skillful staff comprising of historians, architects, artisans and builders for the construction of the memorial. An honorarium of Rs 1.1 million would be presented to the selected model for the complex.

Manjeet Singh GK (President DSGMC) and Manjinder Singh Sirsa (General Secretary) said that the memorial would symbolize the sacrifices of innocent citizens.   Surprisingly, DSGMC may also commemorate Indian army soldiers killed during the Operation Bluestar.   Sikh24 is validating the plans of DSGMC and will provide an update on the issue.

Many Gurdwaras including Rakab Ganj Sahib were attacked during the 1984 Genocide. Certain members of the Delhi Committee favoring the Congress party—including Paramjit Sarna—had opposed the establishment of the memorial. With the lack of cooperation on the part of government agencies, the DSGMC has decided to construct the memorial in the Gurdwara building itself.

The memorial would be an example of world peace, brotherhood, humanity and compassion.
