Thirteen Month Imprisonment for pro-Khalistan Slogans in India

Ambala—The Ambala Court has announced the imprisonment of 13 months each to Bhai Harminder Singh, Bhai Jaswinder Singh Rajpura, Bhai Gurjant Singh and Manjinder Singh. Their lawyer Gurjinder Singh Sahni said a case had been registered against them for raising pro-Khalistan slogans in the Ambala Court.

The four suspects were originally before the District and Session Court Judge Navita Singh for their alleged involvement in the BSNL telephone pillar blast case on April 13, 2010. They were arrested under the Explosives act and were held under custody in Nabha Jail. After the hearing took place, they started raising Khalistan slogans in the courtroom. They were then charged in a new case for raising the slogans.

The  Sikh youth have expressed no regret over their actions and said that their only aim is to fight for the rights of minorities, including Sikhs, in India. They said that the government should stop playing  dual roles and grant them their deserving rights.

They continued raising pro-Khalistan slogans even after their sentence was announced. Free speech activists have denounced the decision as it limits the rights of Indian citizens to speak against and petition their government.
