SGPC Weighs in on Issues Affecting the Panth

sgpc-logoAMRITSAR SAHIB—The executive meeting of SGPC put forward a number of developments as announced by its President Avtar Makkar.  These developments included construction of a Sikh museum, support for Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar, and the 1984 memorial Gurdwara Sahib.

Makkar said that a World Class Sikh museum depicting Sikh history would be constructed in Akali market near Harimandir Sahib.

On the issue of capital punishment for Prof. Devinderpal Singh Bhullar, he said that the SGPC was making efforts for his release.

Makkar refused to comment on the issue of the recently constructed Operation Blue Star Memorial Gurdwara which has led to a conflict between SGPC and Damdami Taksal. A decision by appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh is awaited by both parties.  Makkar alleged that whatever is decided by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, SGPC would follow that decision.

Other Developments

While speaking with the media, he talked about the installation of a Linear Accelerator machine with a cost of Rs. 12 crore at Sri Guru Ram Das Medical Hospital to facilitate radiotherapy for cancer patients. He also said that efforts were being made to increase the number of seats for the MBBS and MD courses in the medical college.

Further, the construction of a 3 story staff quarter building near Khazana Gate in Sri Amritsar has also been approved by the SGPC.

Additional issues included an increase in the number of Karah Prasad Counters and Jora Ghars at Gurdwara Bhibhor Sahib which lies in the vicinity of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Anandpur Sahib.  A generator of 125 kW has been purchased for Gurdwara Cherrata Sahib and a water purifier with a capacity of 500 liters has been installed at Guru Ram Das Sangat Niwas for the sangat visiting Darbar Sahib.

An improvement  in internet facilities has been put forward for effective networking.
