SGPC Requested to Re-Construct Hondh-Chillar Gurdwara Destroyed in 1984

AMRITSAR SAHIB—The Hondh-Chillar village in Haryana is one of the living examples of Sikh Genocide in India.  It is the site where 32 Sikhs were burnt alive and others were badly injured during 1984 anti-Sikh pogroms. During this massacre, many Sikh residents were forced to leave their homes and until this very day, many have not returned.  Now after 28 years, their case has finally come up and is going through proceedings under Justice T.P Garg in Hisar.

The SCPC has been requested to protect the site of Hondh-Chillar by Sikh organisations living worldwide.  Local Sikhs have also given a statement that the village Gurdwara Sahib was also destroyed by obsessive crowd on 2 November 1984 and Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s saroops was set on fire.

In a written request to the SGPC by local Sikh Sangat, it was stated that the Gurdwara had a lot of land under its name and it should be re-built there, along with other facilities such as a school or hospital.

It was stated that if a hospital was ever built by the Sikhs at the site of Hondh-Chillar, it would shame those responsible for the Sikh Genocide in 1984.  The coordination committee members, S. Manwinder Singh Giaspura, Bhai Sukhjinder Singh Jodha and Bhai Darshan Singh Kohliya stated that the remembrance or any other statue should be built in the memory of martyrs and should be done under the responsibility of SGPC.  If SCPC once accepts to complete this project, it will put an end to people who are looting NRI Sikhs in the name of donation for Sikh Shaheeds.  This historical village should be protected just like the Jallianwala Bagh.
