Under Construction Gurdwara Site Completely Destroyed in Washington

VANCOUVER, WA, USA—A Gurdwara (Sikh place of worship) which was undergoing construction in Vancouver, WA, has been completely destroyed by a fire.  The building was ablaze early this morning.  The reason for the fire is currently not known, and there have been no causalities.  Two persons reported to be at the site are said to be safe.

The Gurdwara lot is 2.5 acres and located at 13400 NE 20th St, very close to the Evergreen High School in Vancouver. The Gurdwara building included a school for Sikh children.

The ATF, FBI, Police and Fire department are investigating the fire.  So far the cause of fire not known, however investigations are expected to continue throughout the day.  The only two persons present at the site alleged that they heard “popping” sounds around 2:30 AM.

The locality of the Gurdwara is said to be peaceful and calm, except for some minor crimes.  The entire neighborhood was constructed in the 60s and 70s.  There have been some concerns by the neighbors regarding the Gurdwara constructions; some have opposed the construction on ground that the Gurdwara services would turn the largely quiet neighborhood noisy.
