GST on ‘Langar’: Ramuwalia Seeks Appointment from Indian President Ramnath Kovind

NEW DELHI—Former Union Minister Balwant Singh Ramuwalia has sought time for an appointment from the Indian President Ramnath Kovind to discuss the unfair GST imposition on the raw material being used for cooking ‘langar’ in Sri Harmandir Sahib.

Interacting with media, Ramuwalia has said that he is ready to present the issue of GST imposition on ‘langar’ as an issue of all religions rather than just of the Sikh community. He indicated to robust campaign across all over India against GST imposition on ‘langar’.

Ramuwalia informed that he met representatives of 43 Sikh bodies of Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) and all of them have announced to support his struggle against the GST imposition on ‘langar’. “We have written a letter to the Indian president Ramnath Kovind seeking his intervention in the issue” he added.

Ramuwalia, who hails from Punjab but shifted his political base to Uttar Pradesh before the 2014 parliamentary elections, said all MPs and ministers would be approached to build pressure on the government.
