Grade XII Syllabus Change: SGPC nominates Dr. Gogoani and Dr. Dhillon for Revision Committee

AMRITSAR SAHIB—The SGPC president S. Gobind Singh Longowal on May 21 nominated Sikh intellectual Dr. Inderjit Singh Gogoani and Sikh historian Dr. Balwant Singh Dhillon for the Revision Committee constituted by the Punjab government. Dr. Inderjit Singh Gogoani is currently serving as a Principal of Khalsa College Senior Secondary School in Amritsar Sahib while Dr. Balwant Singh Dhillon is serving in Guru Nanak Dev University situated in the holy city.  

Notably, the Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh had appointed a six member review committee to examine the removal of Sikh history from the syllabus being taught by the Punjab School Education Board to secondary classes. Beside eminent historian Prof. Kirpal Singh, the committee comprises of former vice chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University Prof J S Grewal, former pro-vice chancellor GNDU Prof Prithipal Singh Kapur, Emeritus Professor of History Punjab University Prof Indu Banga, besides two eminent intellectuals nominated by the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC).

Sharing the development with Sikh24, SGPC’s additional secretary Diljeet Singh Bedi informed that the names of Dr. Inderjit Singh Gogoani and Dr. Balwant Singh Dhillon have been sent to the Punjab government. He added that the SGPC had received a written request from the Punjab government in this concern.
