Grade XII Syllabus Change: Release of New Books Put on Hold; Committee Appointed to Probe Matter

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on May 8 appointed a six members revision committee to examine the matter and decide the way forward. Meanwhile, the Punjab government has put the release of new book for class XII on hold.

Sharing the development with media, a government spokesperson said following the Chief Minister’s decision to set up a six-member committee, headed by historian Prof Kirpal Singh, it was felt that it would be better for the panel to undertake a review of the book before its release. “The Punjab School Education Board has also been directed to facilitate the committee for completing this task at the earliest” he added.

Beside eminent historian Prof. Kirpal Singh, the committee comprises of former vice chancellor Guru Nanak Dev University Prof J S Grewal, former pro-vice chancellor GNDU Prof Prithipal Singh Kapur, Emeritus Prof of History Punjab University Prof Indu Banga, besides two eminent historians to be nominated by the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC).

Terming the move as victory of Sikh masses, the SGPC president Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar has said that Captain had to quit his obdurate behavior at last.
