The SGPC’s executive panel had decided to begin use of these carry bags in its meeting on March 16 on the suggestion Punjab Pollution Control Board.

Interacting with media on this occasion, the SGPC’s chief secretary Dr. Roop Singh said that the SGPC was continuously making efforts for making the environment pollution free. He added that this initiative is part of SGPC’s efforts to reduce pollution in our environment. “Use of degradable carry bags at the holiest Sikh shrine Sri Harmandir Sahib will encourage the common masses to adopt them in their corresponding areas,” he added.

Dr. Roop Singh informed that the first quantum of these degradable carry bags worth 18 quintals has been provided by the Punjab Pollution Control Board. He added that around 15 quintals of these carry bags will get used every month by the Sikh sangat for carrying Prasad.
