Official Commission Asks Punjab Government to Elaborate How It Describes Sant Bhindranwale in Official Record

NEW DELHI—The Central Information Commission (CIC) on March 30 directed the office of the Union Home Minister of India to question Punjab government how it describes Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in its official record. CIC’s move has come in response to an RTI (Right to Information Act) plea moved by an Indian citizen in which he has questioned the Indian government that how it officially recognizes Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as a criminal or as a terrorist or as a religious preacher or other and number of FIRs pending against him.

Information Commissioner Yashovardhan Azad has said that the law and order being a state subject so the information regarding cases registered against Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale must be held by Government of Punjab.

“The PIO is directed to transfer RTI application to Government of Punjab within one week of receipt of this order,” the information commissioner said.

Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who has been officially declared as a great Sikh of 20th century by Sri Akal Takht Sahib Authorities, had sacrificed his life while battling against Indian government during the holocaust of June-1984.  He is a role model for the Sikh youths as well as other youths of communities for fighting against social evils and state excesses on minorities.
