UK Refuses to Return Shaheed Udham Singh’s Revolver, Diary and other items

SUNAM, Punjab—As per an information released by an RTI activist Jatinder Jain, the government of United Kingdom has refused to return goods related to Sikh freedom fighter Shaheed Udham Singh.  Jatinder Jain has been apprised of the development by the Ministry of External Affairs in reply to his query moved via RTI (Right to Information Act).

Speaking to Sikh24, Jatinder Jain informed that the metropolitan police of United Kingdom possessed a revolver, knife, diary and some other goods of Shaheed Udham Singh. He informed that all of these goods were with UK’s metropolitan police as a case property and the police have refused to return these.

Setting aside the claims of Punjab government, Jatinder Jain informed that he has been informed in the RTI that the Punjab government had only two times written to the UK government for these goods in 2004 and in 2014 respectively.

Shaheed Udham Singh was a Sikh freedom fighter who had assassinated Michael O’Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of the Punjab in British India, on 13 March 1940 in avenge of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Shaheed Udham Singh is a well-known figure of the Independence movement from the British. He is also referred as Shaheed-i-Azam Sardar Udham Singh.
