AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—A fanatic Hindu leader of Shiv Sena named Sudhir Kumar Suri was arrested on June 11 by Amritsar police for hurting Sikh sentiments. Suri had burnt an effigy of Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale. After complaints being filed with the police, Suri was arrested from his house in Shivala colony at 11 am this morning.
Suri has been booked under sections 153-A, 295-A, 148 and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code on the complaint of Akali leader Amarbir Singh Dhot.
Sikh24 has learnt that he was produced before the session court of Amritsar and the Court has sent him to Ludhiana jail.
IShiv Sena leader Sudhir Kumar Suri had disturbed the communal harmony in Amritsar on the eve of 33rd anniversary of June 1984 holocaust. He had used objectionable remarks against ‘Nihangs’ as well. Due to his fanatic activities, tension had prevailed in the holy city on June 6 and 7 and a clash between the two communities was averted after timely intervention by police. On June 6, Suri and his aides staged protest at the Ghah Mandi Chowk and burnt Sant Bhindranwale’s effigy.
